January 2016 – January 2017
I got my personal wake-up call the other day: Lazy Frank! Go and type something about your chess life! Thanks for waking me up, Frank. :-)
So here I go: I have to work through a whole year from January 2016 to January 2017 — and I will stick to the format I used in my profile (to get the whole story you have to start there).
aa) My first Tournament (Baltic Open 2014)
This is really hard to believe for me. Not only the tournament is still going on (it's two years now!) — I am still in it! I fought my way into the last round, where I am battling with three others (much better players than me) right now — trying not to end as fourth in that group. It is a success for me already though. I'd never expected that.
ab) My second Tournament (Average Players Slow Thinkers)
Still mixed emotions here and probably no good end: After my loss against "joek18" I lost another game against "RLopez05". Again I performed poorly and RLopez deserved this win. Now I have to win the last game against the undisputed leader in this group to proceed to the next round — which probably will not happen.
ac) My third Tournament (Unofficial 1st Chess.com Long Championship)
After winning all six games in the first round I am waiting since July 8 for this to continue. This format (14 days per move) is not my thing, I found out. I am not in touch with the tournament and probably will be surprised once the games of round 2 will pop up.
B. Tactics Trainer
Some improvements here — I like that! Being a member of chess.com for a little more than 2 years now I feel that I could improve my knowledge and my tactical eye. Reading my last comment from more than 12 months ago I can see that my maximum score was 1450 and I was playing around 1350 points. Today my max is 1636 (how did I do that?) and I mostly move between 1550 and 1600.
I am rather satisfied with that but don't see a real chance to move to higher ratings right now.
C. Playing Blitz
I did play somy games last year but I am still on the losing side. No idea why. No intentions for the moment to play Blitz.
D. Playing Rapid
I want to slightly move away from these long term tournaments. Therefor I joined slowchessleague.org. I think it is best to document this i a seperat blog entries.
