How To Give Checkmate With One Knight

When I started to play chess one of the first things that I learned was I can't give checkmate with 2 knights on an empty board. What about one single knight against some enemy pieces? That makes things more complicated.

Of course it's not possible on an empty board and although it's very rare in practical games it's possible if there are some enemy pieces. So I brought you 5 beautiful chess studies which are based on this brilliant motif.

In the first one we have only 7 pieces on the board, but it has delightful solution.

It's nice how the black pawns are building a cage for their king.

In the second, we can see the helplessness of the black pieces.

It's amazing how the black pieces are not able to stop the checkmate.

The third is a bit similar to the previous one, but with an additional idea in Black's defensive moves.

The defensive underpromotions are not so common.

The fourth is more forced and has more sacrifice in it.

White was able to coordinate the black pieces to the correct squares and delivered a nice checkmate.

The last is one of the most beautiful chess studies what i have ever seen. Take a look!

This is fantastic how the knight and the queen chases the black king across the board and when it looks like Black survived, White crushes him with this amazing idea.

Now we can see that checkmating with one knight is possible and it can be pretty nice. I hope you enjoyed solving these brilliant studies.
