Pawn endgames are one of the most important part of chess. In an endgame with pieces on the board you always have to consider the trading of the pieces. You have to check if that pawn endgame is good or not. Of course it's not always easy.
In the following example, 2 great chess players of the beginning of the 20th century had an exciting game when this position occured:
Well, if we don't know if an endgame is winning or not then we try to calculate some lines to evaluate the position. Pawn endgames are the easiest to calculate because there are no pieces other than the king. Here's a puzzle based on this:
If we are not able to calculate a pawn endgame til the very end then we should think logically and use some theoretical knowledge like the opposition or the rule of the square. Of course it don't have to contain a lot of pawns to have a delightful solution. The following one has only 2 so that's why this is my favourite pawn endgame.
