My Games Against Super GMs

Super Grandmasters have incredible strength and tremendous experience in this fantastic game. Their vision on the board is on another level. Reaching this is extremely hard and it involves a lot of work.

In this article, I’ll show you those few games where I got the opportunity to play against these players. Most of these games will be online blitz games since it’s very rare that an SGM plays in a weaker, over-the-board tournament, but it’s always a pleasure to play against such a strong player.

Peter Svidler has participated in the Fide Candidate Tournament multiple times and he has won the olympiad with his team several times.

During a kasparovchess stream, he was playing against viewers when I challenged him to a game and this happened:

GATA KAMSKY

Gata Kamsky has been a very strong player for a long time. In 1996 he has even played for the Fide World Champion title against GM Anatoly Karpov where Karpov defeated him 10,5-7,5. After this, he retired from chess for a long time and only came back in 2004.

HIKARU NAKAMURA

Hikaru Nakamura is not only a great player but an amazing chess streamer. On a Wednesday when I wanted to play on Arena Kings, the tournament got canceled due to server issues, but it didn’t stop Hikaru from hosting his own Arena Kings where the computer paired us against each other.

ALEKSANDRA GORYACHKINA

Aleksandra Goryachkina is the No. 2 ranked woman with a peak rating of 2611. She was the challenger in the 2020 Women’s World Championship where she was defeated by GM Ju Wenjun. I got paired against her in Titled Tuesday when this happened:

JOHAN-SEBASTIAN CHRISTIANSEN

Solving puzzles with the World Champion!

Johan-Sebastian Christiansen is a Norwegian GM who has participated in the olympiad in the team with the World Champion GM Magnus Carlsen. In the summer of 2020, he played in a tournament in Balatonlelle, Hungary where in the 2nd round I got the opportunity to play against him. He is the strongest player I have ever played over the board.

I always enjoy playing against stronger players and I will never forget these games and the fact that I didn’t lose in all of these is a big achievement for me.

I hope you enjoyed my games against these amazing players!
