The PIN
Hello everybody !! I am back with another cool and interesting blog...
So let's look at the topic for today's blog...
The PIN:
A PIN is a situation brought on by an attacking piece in which a defending piece cannot move without exposing a more valuable defending piece on its other side to capture by the attacking piece. Moving the attacking piece to bring on the pin is called pinning; the defending piece so restricted is described as pinned.
Here is an example:
Depending upon the movement of pieces, there are 2 types of pins :
1. Straight Line Pin
2. Diagonal Line Pin
A Straight Line Pin is a type of pin which is done by a piece which attacks a straight line. These pieces include a Rook and Queen. Below is an example:
This is a very fine example of a Straight Line Pin. When the Rook or a Queen pin a piece in a straight line, it is called a straight line pin.
A diagonal line pin occurs when a piece is pinned along a diagonal. This is done by a Queen and a Bishop. Take the example below :
This is a fine example of a diagonal line pin. When the Bishop or the Queen pins a piece along a diagonal, it is called a diagonal line pin.
Puzzle Time !!!
2. White to Play - If it was not for the protection of the Black Bishop by the Queen, White would play R X B Mate. Can you find a way of driving the Queen from this role ??
