Introduction
As you guys may (or may not) know, i've been quite inactive since the last 8-9 months... during that period i actualy took a break and stepped away from chess. But is taking a break a good way to increase your skill? I will awnser you based on my own experiences.
!Take note that this blog is based on my own experience, you may have different results than i did!
Chapter 1: Attention
When you are tired of chess like i was 8 months ago, i plaied fast, didin't calculate right and blundered very often, here is an example, the last game before i quit. That game was not that bad but take a look at Ra5(by the way this is my last game before i quit but other games were way worse.
So that game was not so bad i didin't miss any brilliant moves or anithing but i definetly did a dum blunder, and these happened in almost every games.
When i came back, i was way more fresh minded and i could actualy anayze the position better and spot good moves better as well as less blunders.
So overall, progress
Chapter 2: Openings
Im not gonna talk too much about it, when i came back i basicly forgot every single openings i have learned so far, so if you do take a break take note that you will need to learn some openings again.
Chapter 3: Overall performances
When i came back, i had WAY WAY WAY better performances, more good moves, less blunders, better mate detection, etc. Take a look at this screenshot of when i came back.
SO overall, yeah, you can take a break and improove, as you can seer, i got big ammounts of ELO right after I came back, the reason is i got fresh new minds and could analize better. So if you feel like you cannot really focus on the game, taking a break is the best cure. When i came back i got a 8 game winstreak which was my all time record. But you do have to watch out because you WILL need to learn openings again.
