Nestled in the historic city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, chess enthusiasts from around the globe gathered for an exhilarating battle of wits and strategy in the inaugural World Chess Rapid Game 1.

In game 1 there were not many upsets but a surprising upset with the game including top seed GM Magnus Carlsen (2818) drawing with GM Nikita Petrov (2509).

Other upsets in Game 1 included IM Jakub Kosakowski (2472) against GM Baadur Jobava (2671).

The game was won after 41. Bh6!!
