The Grob's Winning Chances
Have you or your opponents played the Grob? You can play it as much as you want but you'll rarely see your opponents play this. Well, although it is called the worst opening, there's a way to win quick. Wanna know? Here we go!
The Grob is popular for being the worst opening in chess. If you know the Grob, no need to go through this puzzle. If you don't know, try to guess it.
That's the Grob but some are asking, why is it called the Grob? Well, based on my research on the Grob, the opening takes its name from Swiss IM Henri Grob (1904–1974) who analysed it extensively and played hundreds of correspondence games with it. In Grob's newspaper column analysis of this opening, he referred to it as the Spike Opening, a name which is still used occasionally. The Grob Gambit is a bad yet sometimes good opening. It starts with the Grob and then, 1.. d5 2. Bg2.
Now, based on my expierience, I always win when I play this opening trap. The trap here is if they take on g4, 3. c4 xc4 and then Bxb7. Notice that the rook is trap and will be captured in the next move.
There are also similar positions with this trap like these.
My favorite is the last one showed because the rook is free since the queen isn't protecting it.
So, I don't recommend playing the Grob since after g4 black is already better, but still, if you want, you can do it. Plus, it is nice to try out a new opening.
