Live Seminars with Chess University Directors this Friday!

Dec 14, 2017, 6:40 PM |

Chess University is going to offer two live seminars with Chess University's Directors this Friday. Each seminar will consist of a 45 minute lecture, a 30 minute training session featuring some carefully selected exercise positions, and a 15 minute open discussion period for a total of 90 minutes of class time. Questions can be asked via chat throughout each seminar, but should be kept on topic except for the open discussion towards the end.

Live Seminar 1: Recognizing Tactical Opportunities

This seminar is intended for players in the 1000-1400 Elo rating range, who may already be familiar with the most important tactical patterns on a theoretical level, but have trouble consistently applying that knowledge in their own games. FIDE-Master Dalton Perrine will show examples of typical tactical opportunities that often occur in practice. He will not only point out the tactical solutions, but also explain why they work in the given positions. This will enable the students to develop their feeling for when a tactical opportunity may be present.

Date: Friday, December 15th, 2:00-3:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8h)

Target audience: 1000-1400 Elo rating level

Tuition: $15

Live Seminar 2: Punishing Positional Mistakes

This seminar is aimed at players in the 1400-1800 Elo rating range, who are expected to have a good grasp of the tactical aspects of the game, but may not be as familiar with positional concepts. FIDE-Master Arne Jochens will demonstrate positional mistakes in positions with common pawn structures that often occur in club level games. Learning these positional patterns will enable the students to avoid making those mistakes in their own games, and punish their opponents when they do make them. The examples shown will also be used to extract some general rules about positional play.

Date: Friday, December 15th, 12:00-1:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8h)

Target audience: 1400-1800 Elo rating level

Tuition: $15
