Chess Concepts: Attack the Uncastled King

Hello Everyone!

National Master Dave Mohan here, back with an addition to the Chess Concepts series. One question I get a lot from my beginner students is "why should I even castle?" It's a strange king move that, in the minds of many amateur players, is a waste of time. This belief largely stems from the fact that many players fail to take advantage of their opponents' uncastled kings, so begin to think that the king is perfectly safe in the middle of the board.

However, this line of thinking is incorrect! In my most recent Chess Concepts video, I highlight ways in which you can take advantage of an uncastled king, creating problems for your opponent should they opt to neglect their king safety.

The video is embedded below. Please subscribe if you learned something. It's 100% free and helps me continue to push out free educational content on a daily basis!

Hi Everyone! My name is National Master D. R. Mohan (aka NM Giraffe_Chess). Like many of you, I have a relentless addiction to chess and often find myself hunched over my computer screen, playing blitz games into the late hours of the night/early hours of the morning. So, I thought I would share a couple of my interesting thoughts, especially now that we all have some extra time to grow our game happy.png
