Road to National Master // Part 1 (+Video)
Ever since I first started playing chess, I desperately wanted to achieve the National Master title. In fact, in one of my very first chess lessons, my coach brought up the NM title, telling me that it's a goal I should have my eye on. And seeing all the titled players at local tournaments play the game with such mastery, I was hooked to the idea. Even when I was rated 618 USCF, I fantasized about the prospect of one day being NM Dave Mohan. It's a goal of many chess novices, yet very few people actually achieve it. However, let me tell you that there is no magic (and very luck) involved in achieving the NM title.
Actually, most of what goes into it revolves around three things:
- Hard Work
- Passion
- Studying the Right Things
Though this may seem like a bit of a simplification, allow me to explain what I mean. Whether you are a complete beginner who's starting chess at the age of 50 or a young kid who plays in tournaments and is actively seeking the title, following certain pieces of advice will help you make it to NM. In the first part of my "Road to National Master" series, I've highlighted the main tips you need to be successful in your pursuit of chess improvement.
