Hey y'all! I'm still alive. Today we're going over the greatest game of all time, it's not recent, but it's still the greatest.
It was played in the Magnus Carlsen Invitational 2021 between, you guessed it- Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura!
Here, we see a classic game between two top-tier grandmasters, and all the complex theory that is used.
Magnus starts off with the move 1. e4, and Hikaru proceeds to play 2...e5.
Next, we see the risky 2. Ke2 played by Magnus, leading to the Bongcloud, one of the hardest openings in chess. It requires a lot of theory and practice, and only played at GM level. Hikaru proceeds to play the best move in the situation, 2...Ke7. According to the renowned "Mittens", this is the best counter to 2. Ke2.
Already, we can see how much effort both players have put into studying the theory beforehand. The game continues 3. Ke1, Ke8. All of these are the best engine moves. Then the game continues and the moves are repeated one more time...and then once more.
By three-fold repetition, both Hikaru and Magnus drew and no player lost! This is why Mittens loves the Bongcloud as when played perfectly at GM level, no player can lose!
Hope you enjoyed and learnt something totally useful today!
Sincerely,
