At the age of 9 he made his first move on the chessboard! After only 3 years he became World Junior Champion. Since then he has managed to win the World Cup twice (2005, 2017), three times the Chess Olympiad (2006, 2008, 2012), once the World Rapid Chess Championship (2009) and the Blitz Championship (2010).
He is the only chess player who managed to defeat the World Champion, Magnus Carlsen, three times right in Norway. In addition to his impressive resume, Levon Aronian is an extremely charismatic person with chosen passions. These include classical music and jazz, and when it comes to sports he is a passionate fan of the Boston Celtics team.
In 2019 he was in Romania at Superbet Rapid & Blitz (Grand Chess Tour) and won the tournament. Many things connect him to Romania.
The year 2020 was a difficult one for him. In the spring, he had to say goodbye to the love of his life, Arianne Cali, who died in a car accident, and this fall his country is in a territorial battle with its Azerbaijani neighbors.
