Zurich 1934 Part 2-Epic Games, and a warning to the champ!
Zurich Tournament
|
In this second part of this short acknowledgement of this historic event, a brief mention of the top five finishers and the number of wins achieved by them.
Alexander Alekhine, World Champion 12 wins
Max Euwe 10 wins
Salomon Flohr 9 wins
Efim Bogoljubov 9 wins
Emanuel Lasker 9 wins (First tournament since Moscow 1925!!!)
There are so many great games in this tournament, that I will only give a few, but please share any games in the comments that are your favorites that I didn't mention. I am sure to see a few.
Here are my choices:
Alexander Alekhine
Two games included here, one is his only win ever against Lasker.
Also his last win against Nimzowitsch using the blockade against him!
Max Euwe- Wins against the last two World Champion combatants (Alekhine-his only loss, and Bogoljubov), but a loss to Lasker. Max was 0-3 lifetime against Emanuel!!!
I didn't show any Flohr games, even though he tied with Euwe, because he didn't draw blood against any of the top finishers!
Probably why He didn't become World Champion ( my own commentary on that!)
Will finish this post with three losses by Emanuel Lasker.
Why?
Lasker had 4 losses in this tournament to players he never lost to before.
He never lost to them again!!
The Alekhine game is given above.
