Olympic Gold Medallist Freestyle Skier Birk Ruud to fight TV personality Nicolay Ramm | 10th December 2022 | London

From the slopes to the ropes, 22 year old Birk Ruud shot to fame in Norway when he successfully claimed an Olympic gold medal in the 2022 winter Olympics. Ruud’s legendary win included a double 1440 mute holding the Norwegian flag. Who will be left with the Norwegian flag around their shoulders this December when he faces off against Nicolay Ramm in the chessboxing ring? Neither fighter has any experience in boxing or chess and they will be training from scratch in order to compete as part of the Norwegian TV show on NRK (https://www.nrk.no).

Ramm has covered a number of obscure British sports including Royal Shrovetide Football, a game of football without any rules that is played by the entire village or Shrovetide every year (https://bit.ly/3CCq8KJ)

WHAT IS CHESSBOXING?

Chessboxing adds the thrills and spills of speed chess to the strategic and tactical challenges of traditional boxing, creating a mind-bending hybrid sport that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. The ultimate battle of brain and brawn. Two opponents play a round of speed chess followed by a round of boxing, with one minute in between rounds. They continue to alternate between the two with the chess game becoming ever more challenging as the physical battle takes its toll. The winner is decided by checkmate or knockout.
