  • When Bobby Fischer was born in Chicago in 1943, his mother, Regina was technically homeless. Having recently arrived from Moscow and with an intensely intellectual drive, Regina traveled back-and-forth and all around the country in pursuit of education and livelihood. Eventually, Regina, along with Bobby and his sister, settled in Brooklyn, NY in 1949.

By 1956, Fischer had become the youngest American Junior Champion at age 13. He won the US Championship when he was still 14 and became the youngest chess Grandmaster ever at age 15.
