Ronald Bolo is one of the unsung heroes that work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a chess tournament goes off successfully.

He is 29 years old and is a licensed  FIDE arbiter Category D, a National Arbiter, and a rating officer.

He has been the arbiter in several high-level chess events most vividly in the 2021 Kenya National Championship which came down to the wire in playoffs between Martin Njoroge and Mehul Gohil. (Martin Njoroge won)

I  will also give a brief list of the events that he helped in:

1. KYCA Rapid Championship

2. Ultimate Terrian Challenge ( Mehul Gohil Vs Victor Ng'ani)

You can see him in the background on the sofa working to help viewers stay informed about the match situation.

3. 12th Capablanca Cup

He is also a dangerous chess player with a Fide rating of (1625) Standard, (1568) Rapid, and (1639) Blitz.

The first game I will show is a hard-fought battle against a 2100-rated player. It was Bibasa Bob Gilbert (2174) vs Ronald Bolo (1520)

The next game is truly a testament that chess involves some luck and not just skill and hard work. The game is Jonah Langat (1736) vs Ronald Bolo

Everyone has a story to tell and this is no less for Ronald Bolo who has a heart for giving and as early as his university days has been teaching chess in schools in Mombasa, Kiambu, Kitale, and Kitui free of charge together with his friend Mark Nyairo.

This is only the first part of the series and much more is in store, Stay tuned.
