Knight Fork
Hi guys,
Today, we are going to discuss knight fork.
It is an attack by knight onon two or more chessman. All the chessman, can bring about fork, but Queen's and knight fork is more frequent. Though Queen is the Champion of fork, knight fork is hardest to see due to Knight's strange way of moving. When you are a beginner, you would be fearing knight fork, but after a period, you will feel it easy as till that time you would be knowing that a knight can't attack both light and dark squares at the same time.
An instructive example of the the truimph of black's knight against the might of White's Queen is illustrated in the game between Hassler-Scheichel.
The knight fork in a more complex situation can be seen in the game between Chernykov and Belyuchik, Lodz, 1953.
It is always better to give a kick to the opponent's knight but you have to be very careful as it is likely to boomerang in some position and the unassuming knight comes back to strategic squares truimphantly. This was discovered to the disbelief by black in the game between Duckstein-Johansson.
We conclude this blog with a position from the game between Momo-Macgovan, Moscow, 1956 with repeated advice that a centrally placed knight should never be taken lightly no matter how unassuming it seems to you.
