Why Your Puzzle Rating Is Higher Than Your ELO
Introduction: The Puzzle-Rating Mystery
i got the diamond membership thanks to the improvers club so the first thing i did i played many puzzles and i got like 800 points quickly If you're like me, you've probably noticed that your puzzle rating is way higher and i didnt see any post that talk about it so im gonna try explain it from what i got from youtube and internet
You’re Just Focused on One Thing in Puzzles
Puzzles are all about that one thing. Maybe it’s a fork, a pin, or a discovered attack. It's like you're in a puzzle-solving zone. But in a real game? There’s a whole bunch happening: opening, middle game, trying not to get checkmated in 3 moves... you get the point. In puzzles, you just have to find the one move, like solving a Rubik's cube, but with less frustration and more knights.
Puzzle Ratings Don’t Account for Endgames and Openings
Here’s the thing: puzzles are about tactics. And that’s where most of us 1000 Elo players do well. But get me into an endgame or an unfamiliar opening, and I might as well be playing blindfolded.
The Puzzle Difficulty Curve is All Over the Place
Has this ever happened to you? You crush a 1400-rated puzzle, then struggle on a 1200-rated one? Yeah, the puzzle difficulty rating system is... quirky. Some days you’re feeling like a chess grandmaster, and the next, you can’t figure out how to move your rook. It’s enough to make you question everything.

What Can We Do About This?
Now that we know why our puzzle ratings are higher than our Elo, what can we actually do about it? Here’s what I think:
Study Endgames and Openings
If we’re being honest, real games require more than just tactics. So, yeah, it might be a little boring, but studying basic endgames and opening principles is a game-changer. Once you know what to do in those areas, you won’t be waiting for a lucky tactic to show up. It’s like leveling up in a game, but in chess! i think the london for white and king indian for black is good choice not so much theroy and easy to play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPXBGvEqWXA&t=369s&pp=ygURdGhlIGxvbmRvbiBzeXN0ZW0%3D
