Fact: The Queen Wasn’t Always the Most Powerful Piece

In the early versions of chess, the queen was one of the weakest pieces on the board! Originally, she could only move one square diagonally.

It wasn’t until the 15th century in Spain that the queen’s movement changed, allowing her to move any number of squares in all directions. This change made chess much more dynamic and aggressive, leading to the modern version of the game we know today.

This transformation is sometimes called the "Mad Queen" revolution, as it completely reshaped chess strategy.
