Chess notation
Chess notation is a system for recording a game of chess. It is important for documenting and analyzing chess games, especially in competitive play. The most common and simple notation system is called Algebraic Notation, which labels each square of the chessboard with a unique combination of a letter and a number. For example, the square in the bottom left corner of the board is labeled "a1" and the square in the top right corner is labeled "h8". Each move in the game is then recorded by noting the piece moved and the square to which it was moved.
