Ⅶ-A small correlation and three imaginary games!!
Hi there!!
Introduce
This is a video that came out a year ago and there is something quite interesting in this video that I will share in today's post.
You can watch this video, which I got from Youtube and the video information source is: Tata Steel Chess Tournament, And this will be the video source you will watch.
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament takes place January 13-29, 2023 in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. The video you are watching is an interview between Magnus Carlsen and a reporter. The interview was reported during the 6th round of the tournament.
According to the Tata Steel Chess Tournament homepage, the video is titled: Magnus Ends Losing Streak By Drawing Van Foreest. After 5 rounds, Magnus Carlsen won 1, drew 2 and lost 2. A rather disappointing result. However, after round 6 Magnus Carlsen faced Van Foreest. Magnus Carlsen drew with Van Foreest, after the 6th game Magnus Carlsen seemed to have regained his Chess King's spirit. After the remaining 7 rounds, he won 4, drew 3, and did not lose any games.
After the video of this interview was posted on the homepage Tata Steel Chess Tournament
Many people I call youtube detectives have discovered a correlation that I think you will find funny and surprising. I myself was surprised and found it funny. OK! You may ask yourself: ''Does Magnus Carlsen's hairstyle look like a certain chess player's hairstyle?'' If you do, not only you but everyone else will associate it with Paul Morphy.
You can call it: Morphy Carlson, Morphy Carlsen or Paul Magnus. These are the names that people still say. But for me Paul Morphy + Magnus Carlsen = Carl Paulsen. Sounds quite similar to Louis Paulsen.
And Louis Paulsen also has a similar hairstyle as Paul Morphy and Magnus Carlsen. Maybe this is not a coincidence.
Paul Porphy + Magnus Carlsen = Carl Paulsen
Now I will introduce you to 3 chess games. Not rapid, not blitz or super blitz. But blindfold chess, in addition to playing live chess, Paul Morphy and Magnus Carlsen are both capable of playing imaginary chess. And not only Paul and Magnus, but everyone is capable of playing blindfold chess. Let's see who is better between Paul Morphy and Magnus Carlsen.
- Paul Porphy
We invite you to go back to 1864, 160 years ago, in the capital of Havana, beautiful Cuba, to witness Paul Morphy blindfolded playing chess simultaneously with 3 chess players on 3 different chess boards.
First game: Paul Morphy vs Placido Dominguez
Placido Dominguez: There is very little information about him, except that he was a strong Cuban chess player.
Game Two: Paul Morphy vs Felix Sicre
Félix Sicre: more information is available. He was born in 1817 – died in 1871, was a Cuban chess master. He became the first Cuban champion in 1860, and lost the title in 1862 match against Celso Golmayo Zúpide.
Sicre lost all games to Paul Morphy, during his two visits to Havana in October 1862 and February 1864.
Game three: Paul Morphy vs Celso Golmayo Zupide
Celso Golmayo Zupide:
Celso Golmayo y Zépide (April 24, 1820, in Logroño, Spain – April 1, 1898, in Havana) was a Spanish–Cuban chess master. He was the first Cuban player to participate in European Tournaments.
He had been generally accepted as Cuban champion since his 1862 match defeat of Félix Sicre. He took part in the famous Paris 1867 tournament. Celso Golmayo y Zépide was the father of Celso Golmayo y de la Torriente and Manuel Golmayo y de la Torriente. Later, Celso Golmayo y de la Torriente and Manuel Golmayo y de la Torriente both became chess Masters.
He is also known as the chess teacher of José Raúl Capablanca. The man who later became a Chess King.
In matches, he won against Paul Morphy 3 : 2 at Havana 1864 (blind simultan., Morphy gave odds of a knight).
- Magnus Carlsen blindfolded.
Three blindfold games between Magnus Carlsen and three challengers. Each game will be 9 minutes long. That means, divided evenly, Magnus Carlsen will only have an average of 3 minutes per game.
First game: Magnus Carlsen vs Actor Gbenga Akinnagbe
Actor Gbenga Akinnagbe: He is an actor and writer, best known for a series that aired on the American television channel HBO.
Game Two: Magnus Carlsen vs Chris Flower.
Chris Flower: He is a financial consultant on Wall Street.
Game three: Magnus Carlsen vs Paul Hoffman
Paul Hoffman: He is the CEO of Liberty Science Center, a graduate of Harvard University, a mathematician who has published many books on Mathematics.
Mathematician Paul Hoffman's 34th move, when his thinking time was only 20 seconds, while Magnus Carlsen's thinking time was more than 1 minute. By the 35th move, before he could continue, Mathematician Paul Hoffman lost due to running out of time. Through the game, it can be seen that Mathematician Paul Hoffman played very well, he played on par with Magnus Carlsen when blindfolded. However, because he thought about the moves for too long, he eventually lost.
After the game Magnus Carlsen told Mathematician Paul Hoffman: ''You had an excellent position just a couple of us ago well that was difficult.''
Paul Hoffman: ''Thank you''.
Final part for the article
Imaginary chess is very interesting, right? If chess is a combination of thinking, intelligence, concentration and thinking tactics, then imaginary chess includes everything and has evolved to the maximum level of the chess player, not only having to remember the moves but also more.
You can understand through the three games of Paul Morphy when he played against the 3 players who were called the strongest in Cuba at that time, however, Paul Morphy still won in the way that people called him: Chess Genius Paul Morphy.
Magnus Carsen, when he only had to face 3 people who were not specialized in chess, they were just successful in financial and social science, but look at the way Magnus Carlsen won in each game. However, we cannot say that Magnus Carlsen was lucky when meeting opponents who were not specialized in chess because: Magnus Carlsen can also play with dozens of people at the same time while blindfolded. If you play imaginary chess with time, Carlsen has played with all 5 people. The reason the three players are not chess experts is because they are the ones who challenged Magnus Carlsen.
