Why Chess is Cool

I think chess is cool.

Chess is a very versatile game. You can lose after having the upper hand the entire game or win after nearly losing to a checkmate. But what sets chess aside as a truly outstanding game of skill, wits, memory and perseverance is the fact that it is very accessible to the majority of people in the world, whether as a homemade chessboard or online, like chess.com. Many people enjoy chess, and rightfully so. It is a fun, easy-to-learn game which tests all aspects of one's intelligence. It can be a hobby, a skill, or a full-time job. 

Many people do not understand the full extent of chess. The many openings and tactics can be lost on someone not passionate about chess. But these tactics are what can make or break a game. Without these very tactics, how could chess the game it is today?
