Division and strife through faith in a translation, rather than faith in GOD Alone.
Division and strife through faith in a translation, rather than faith in GOD alone.
In THEE, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be ashamed.
In THY Righteousness Deliver me, and Rescue me; Incline THINE Ear to me, and Save me.
Be THOU A Rock Of Habitation, to Which I may continually come; THOU Hast Given Commandment to Save me, for THOU Art my Rock And my Fortress… Psalm 71:1-3
May THY Lovingkindnesses also Come to me, O LORD, THY Salvation according to THY Word;
So I shall have an answer for him who reproaches me, for I trust in THY Word.
And do not take The Word Of Truth utterly out of my mouth, for I wait for THINE Ordinances.
So I will keep THY Law continually, forever and ever.
And I will walk at liberty, for I seek THY Precepts.
I will also speak of THY Testimonies before kings, and shall not be ashamed.
And I shall delight in THY Commandments, Which I love.
And I shall lift up my hands to THY Commandments, Which I love;
and I will meditate on THY Statutes.
Remember The Word To THY servant, in Which THOU Hast made me hope.
This is my comfort in my affliction, that THY Word has Revived me.
The arrogant utterly deride me, yet I do not turn aside from THY Law.
I have remembered THINE Ordinances from of old, O LORD, and comfort myself.
Burning indignation has seized me because of the wicked, who forsake THY Law.
THY Statutes are my songs in The House Of my pilgrimage.
O LORD, I remember THY Name in the night, and keep THY Law.
This has become mine, that I observe THY Precepts. Psalm 119:41-56.
This posting is because of and in reply to one here known as ‘Discipled’, who chose to post on the posting, ‘John 16:8-11 and the blindness of the blind who profess to see’, a comment, from himself, maintaining his faith in a translation, namely, the kjv.
Our words show our heart, and as our LORD JESUS CHRIST Says,
“Either make the tree good, and its fruit Good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
“You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is Good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.
“The good man out of Good treasure brings forth what is Good; and the evil man out of evil treasure brings forth what is evil.
“And I Say To you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in The Day Of Judgement.
“For by your words you shall be Justified, and by your words you shall be Condemned.” Matthew 12:33-37.
Blindly quoting Scripture which maintains that The Word Of GOD Is Truth is not justification in itself that the one speaking, or rather, quoting GOD’S Word, is one who stands in Truth, just as Truth Is In JESUS.
And it certainly does not mean that they stand before HIM as one who is Justified by faith.
It is living fulfilling The Word, as opposed to merely quoting The Word and yet standing Condemned in that the use of The Word is to distort The Holy Scriptures to their own ends and beliefs, whilst both speaking and acting in complete disregard/contradiction to It; as though truly unknowing of and in disregard of The Word Itself.
We are Called and admonished throughout Scripture to put on The Armour Of GOD (Ephesians 6:14-19), taking The Helmet Of Salvation and The Sword Of The SPIRIT, Which Is The Word Of GOD.
This does not mean dependence upon and faith in the translation used, but The Word Of GOD.
And for this reason we also constantly thank GOD that when you received from us The Word Of GOD’S Message, you accepted not the word of men, but what it really is, The Word Of GOD, Which also performs Its Work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13.
Salvation through Sanctification By The SPIRIT and faith in The Truth.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for The Weapons Of our warfare are not of the flesh, but Divinely Powerful for the destruction of fortresses. Destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against The Knowledge Of GOD, and taking every thought captive to the obedience of CHRIST,… 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
We must be ever mindful and not lose sight of such as James writes In The SPIRIT, and upholding The Sound Words; those Of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, that the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of life, and is set on fire by hell.
We are warned, ‘Let not many become teachers, my Brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter Judgement...’
It is not just what we say, but how we say it. This is the example we are giving as a Christian; a follower Of CHRIST, and that which is Of GOD HIMSELF is the only acceptable way (James 3).
A disciple is a learner, a pupil of the one they follow.
“A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher. Luke 6:40.
We only have One as The TEACHER; and we are Called By The MOST HIGH to be Conformed to HIS Image. (Matthew 23:8, Romans 8:29).
Eternal Life is to know The Only True GOD And JESUS CHRIST WHOM HE Sent (John 17:3)
...And by this we know if we have come to know HIM, if we keep HIS Commandments.
The one who says, “I have come to know HIM”, and does not keep HIS Commandments, is a liar, and The Truth is not in him;
but whoever keeps HIS Word, in him The Love Of GOD has truly been Perfected (Made consummate in character; 2 Corinthians 4:16, John 15:1-6, Titus 3:5-8, Romans 8:16). By this we know that we are In HIM: the one who says he abides In HIM ought himself to walk in the same Manner as HE Walked.
Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an Old Commandment Which you have had from the beginning; the Old Commandment Is The Word Which you have heard. 1 John 2:3-7.
This faith in a translation rather than faith in GOD Alone is, sadly, something which seems to be believed upon by many.
They quote from the kjv, renouncing all other translations, and yet they do not see that they are both living and believing in direct contradiction to the very Word they claim to stand on.
I do not know where it came from, or who first spewed it forth as a doctrine (a particular principle, position, or policy taught or advocated) to be adhered to, but it is, to me, much the same in principle (an accepted or professed rule of action or conduct) as the error of the pharisees, who put their own laws around GOD’S Law in order that the people did not break GODS Law, and then proceeded to live in contradiction to GOD’S Law in upholding their own laws and rules above GOD’S, and in doing so forsaking The GOD WHOM they maintained they spoke for and served.
...THY Word Is Very Pure, therefore THY servant loves It… Psalm 119:140.
Therefore, as GOD’S Word Is Very Pure, what ought to be the conduct in accordance with HIS Word of those who are servants Of The Living GOD, WHO Is The SAVIOUR Of all men, especially of believers?
...Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility Receive The Word Implanted, Which Is able to Save your souls. But prove yourself doers of The Word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves… James 1:21-22.
See and read carefully that you may understand correctly, 1 Peter 1:13 – 2:12.
We obtain Salvation as the outcome of our faith in GOD Alone; The LORD JESUS CHRIST, and as From The LORD, The SPIRIT.
As I said in my reply on the previous blog to the one who likes to be known as ‘Discipled’ here, I will show, from Scripture, the errors of the kjv translation.
These are facts that can be checked by any who care to do so. Never take the word of any mere man alone. It is foolishness to do so.
I will also show where I believe both the kjv and the nasb translation (the translation I use and which I believe The LORD Gave to me. It is part of my testimony in when I came to first believe), as well as many other translations, hold an error in the same place. But for this part it will require faith, yet still, faith in accordance with The Word.
We must all, without exception, never accept anything as being Of GOD HIMSELF the very moment a contradiction is shown to it elsewhere in The Word Itself. One contradiction alone is enough to forsake it.
Those being Led By The SPIRIT will certainly do this. No lie is of The Truth, and no liar has Eternal Life abiding in them. See John 4:14, John 7:37-39, Jeremiah 31:33-34, 1 Peter 1:23, 1 Corinthians 2:13-15, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 1 John 2:27, Ephesians 4:21, 1 John 3:24, Romans 8:16-17.
GOD is not a GOD of confusion, but Of Peace, as in all the Churches Of the Saints.
In showing, I will write each verse from both the kjv and the nasb.
Written in the New Testament, the easiest and most obvious one to show first is Acts 12:4,
And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Kjv translation.
And when he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out before the people. Nasb translation.
The word translated as ‘Easter’ in the kjv, and ‘the Passover’ in the nasb, is, in the Greek spelling of the Aramaic word for ‘the Passover’, ‘Pascha’.
From the Hebrew ‘Pasach’, to pass over, to spare; a feast Instituted By GOD in commemoration of the Deliverance of Israel from Egypt, and anticipatory of the Expiatory Sacrifice Of CHRIST (Exodus 12:42-48, Leviticus 18:29-34, Numbers 9:12, John 19:32-36, 1 Corinthians 5:7-8, Colossians 2:8-15).
The word signifies the Passover feast, e.g., Matthew 26:2, John 2:13 & v23, John 6:4, Hebrews 11:28.
There is more Scripture that could be applied to show it, but for the purpose of this posting it is to show that the word ‘Easter’ is not a correct translation of the word found in the original manuscripts. ‘Easter’ is a word that would not have been known either by the Apostles Of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, or the Jews of the time that The New Testament was written.
Remembering that the kjv is only a translation of The Holy Scriptures, finished in its translation well over 1500 years after those original manuscripts were written In The SPIRIT, and what we have now as the New Testament.
‘Easter’ is a word which first came much later than the first century of CHRIST’S Birth, Death and Resurrection.
The nasb, and whatever other translation translates it as ‘the Passover’ in Acts 12:4 is correct.
‘Easter’ is undeniably an incorrect translation of the word from the original manuscripts.
But better to show the error of this mistaken belief that the kjv is a flawless translation of The GOD Breathed Word into the English language is to show doctrinal error/misunderstanding that has ensued in the poor translation of certain words in certain passages of Scripture.
Hebrews 2:17,
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. Kjv translation.
Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Nasb translation.
The word translated as ‘reconciliation’ in the kjv and as ‘propitiation’ in the nasb is the Greek word, ‘Hilaskomai’, and is a verb.
Reconciliation means an act of reconciling; cause to become amicable, to bring into agreement or harmony; make compatible or consistent.
Propitiation means the act of propitiating; to make favourably inclined, appease, conciliate.
It is GOD WHO is propitiated by the vindication of HIS Holy And Righteous Character, whereby, Through The Provision HE Has Made In The Vicarious And Expiatory Sacrifice Of CHRIST. (Romans 3:21-26, 1 John 2:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:9)
HE has so Dealt with sin that HE can Show Mercy to the believing sinner in the removal of his guilt and the remission of his sins; Grace through faith.
In Luke 18:13, ‘hilaskomai’ is translated as ‘merciful’ in both the kjv and nasb.
In Luke 18:13 the sinner is the object of the verb ‘hilaskomai’.
In Hebrews 2:17 the object of the verb ‘hilaskomai’ is sin.
Never is GOD said to be reconciled, a fact itself indicative that the enmity; the condition of hostility, exists on man’s part alone, and that it is man who needs to be reconciled to GOD, and not GOD to man.
GOD is always the same. HE Is Holy, Righteous, Perfect. GOD does not change.
W. E. Vine (who I go to for understanding of New Testament Greek, though above all I seek and trust GOD in understanding) writes, “to make propitiation” is an important correction of “to make reconciliation”.
Hebrews 4:9,
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Kjv translation.
There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. Nasb translation.
The word here translated as ‘rest’ in the kjv, and ‘Sabbath rest’ in the nasb, is the Greek word, ‘Sabbatismos’, meaning, a Sabbath-keeping.
The kjv does not at all convey into English a truer meaning of the word from the original manuscripts as does, in this instance, the nasb.
So, for the purpose of this posting it is enough already to show that what is claimed by some is wrong, and that the kjv translation is not a perfect rendering of the original manuscripts into the English language nor is it GOD’S Word perfectly presented in English.
By the testimony of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed.
GOD Says, let him who has MY Word speak MY Word in truth. “What does straw have in common with grain?” Declares The LORD. “Is not MY Word Like Fire?” Declares The LORD, “and Like A Hammer Which Shatters rock? Jeremiah 23.
Where I see an error shared by both the kjv and the nasb is in Matthew 6:30.
I will write it here from the nasb translation, first without the man added words (these were added by the translators, and as they say, to, ‘indicate words which are not found in the original Hebrew or Greek but implied by it’).
Sometimes in reading this can be helpful. But also there is a danger that what is being relayed in the original manuscripts of The Words Of GOD may be altered.
In this passage of Scripture, The LORD JESUS CHRIST is Speaking to HIS Disciples and the multitude in what is known as The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5-7).
Here, in what we have portioned as chapter six, HE is Speaking to them of not being anxious for their life; what they shall eat, what they shall drink, for clothing, and that Life is more than food and the body than clothing; but for us to seek first HIS Kingdom and HIS Righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
Bear in mind what The faith speaks and instructs to believers, not to be as unbelievers, and the examples given throughout Scripture of instruction, and the example of conduct of the believers of this time, and their attitude towards others, and toward material things, the words of the Apostles Of our LORD JESUS CHRIST; and that love is the fulfilment of The Law (Luke 12:15-34, Luke 16:19-31, Mark 10:17-31, Acts 4:32 – 5:11, 2 Corinthians chapters 8-9, Galatians 2:10, 1 Timothy 6:3-19, James 2:14-26).
...“But if GOD so Arrays the grass of the field, which is today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, not much more you, O men of little faith?
And now how it appears in the nasb, and other translations.
...“But if God so arrays the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more do so for you, O men of little faith? Nasb translation.
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Kjv translation.
To understand what I am saying in how I am seeing it, you will need to read both the verse as I have written it here and how it appears in Bible translations as we have it, and yet all in the context of Matthew 6:25-34, and in Light of all Scripture; just as we must do. John 3:20-21.
As is written with the man added words in Matthew 6:30, there is a warning Given in The Words Of The LORD JESUS CHRIST to not lack faith in GOD, which now can be missed.
Without the man added words, and taken in the context of this whole passage of Scripture, it reads differently. Psalm 103:15-18, 1 Peter 1:22-25, 2 Corinthians 8:12-15.
Faith is primarily a firm persuasion, a conviction based upon hearing. Romans 10:17.
It means, trusting in GOD Alone; 1 Corinthians 2:5, Galatians 3:23-27, 1 Thessalonians 3:2-5.
It means trustworthiness on the part of the one who professes faith In CHRIST, 1 Timothy 6:20-21, Titus 2:1 – 3:10.
It means what is actually believed in the context of the faith preached, Acts 6:7, Galatians 3:25, Philippians 1:27.
‘...holding fast the faithful Word Which Is in accordance with The Teaching, that he may be able to both exhort in Sound Doctrine and to refuse those who contradict.’ Titus 1:9.
