Samuel L. Jackson's lightsaber color

When you think of lightsaber colors, you think of green, blue, and red generally. But there is one main character in the Star Wars movies who has a different color lightsaber than anybody else in the movies. Mace Windu, played by Samuel L. Jackson. In this post, I am going to talk about how and why he ended up with the color purple.

As you may know, you see Mace Windu in Episode I, The Phantom Menace. You also learn that he is the second most powerful Jedi, only bested by Jedi Master Yoda. But since you don't see him fight in The Phantom Menace, nobody knew what color his lightsaber color was at the time when they were making Episode II, Attack of The Clones.

When they were starting to film Episode II, Samuel L. Jackson went and talked to Director and Writer George Lucas about his lightsaber color. George Lucas responded simply,

"Um, well, good guys are green and blue, bad guys are red. That's just the way it works."

After thinking for a second, Samuel L. Jackson said,

"No purple lightsabers?"

George Lucas then simply stated,

"You might get purple."

And as you know, he did. And his lightsaber has easily become the most widely recognized of the prequels. Also, before Episode II, we had no idea what Mace's fighting style was, as each Jedi has their own style of fighting, that they developed themselves. And his style was no disappointment.
