What Is Mittens' Real Rating?

A few days ago, chess.com released some new cat bots onto the website. These bots all seemed to be normal, except one. Mittens.

Mittens is apparently rated 1, and after playing her at least 20 times and losing every single one of those games, clearly, Mittens is not rated 1, that led me to ask the question, what is Mittens' real rating?

To determine what Mittens' rating really is, I matched Mittens against some of the toughest bots on chess.com to see what the outcome would be of those games. To begin with, I matched Mittens against Emir, a 1000 rated bot.

Game 1: Mittens vs Emir (1000)

It came as no surprise to see Mittens absolutely destroy Emir...

Game 2: Mittens vs Antonio (1500)

After destroying Emir, I matched Mittens against Antonio, a bot rated 1500. Antonio actually ended up giving Mittens a half decent game, with the game lasting more than 50 moves.

Game 3: Mittens vs Li (2000)

Li is a 2000 rated bot. Surely this would be a more even game?

It was clear that from this game Mittens was a lot higher rated than 2000...

Game 4: Mittens vs Fabiano (2840)

Fabiano is the highest rated character you can play on chess.com, surely Mittens couldn't beat this super grandmaster?

Mittens managed to beat Fabiano, a 2840 rated bot. There was only one thing left to do. Match Mittens against the chess.com maximum engine, rated 3200.

Game 5: Mittens vs Chess.com Maximum Engine (3200)

After a tough game against Fabiano, I finally matched Mittens up against the Maximum engine, rated 3200. If Mittens won this she would be the toughest bot to beat on the whole of chess.com. Let us see what happened ...

Mittens had got beat by the maximum engine!

Conclusion

Mittens managed to beat a bot rated 2840 but lost to a bot rated 3200. This leads me to the conclusion that Mittens' rating is somewhere around the region of 3000.

This means that Mittens is the second toughest bot to beat on the whole of chess.com! (Behind the maximum engine)
