Back to the TopHello everyone! This is the first (and probably last) two in one blog I have made. I did this because I thought that the blogs were too short on their own, so why not morph the two together? Yes, yes I know. You can stop praising my big brain skills.

Big brain.

Jokes aside, I hope you enjoy this two in one blog. We’ll be covering some interesting topics today, so stay tuned.

🚂Let’s begin!🚂

How To Teach A Beginner Chess

Getting taught chess for the first time can be confusing and even frustrating 😵‍💫, but luckily there’s an easy way to teach a beginner the chess rules and strategy easily! Drumroll… 🥁🥁🥁 YOU DON’T! Yes, you heard me right, you leave them to figure it out themselves.

Why? Well, getting told all this information can feel like info dumping and can also feel like a lot to remember. Also, if you don’t have a fun person teaching you chess, it can be quite boring😴. It’s good to let them roam free, because discovering something yourself feels more accomplishing than just sitting there. Also, when introducing someone to something, you should let them continue at their own pace. If they want to learn a different way than what you intended, you should let them do it! Do allowing this can feel limiting and thus may make them not too keen on learning, especially if they don’t like your method.

Another useful tip is to make chess fun! Crack jokes, call pawns “juicers”, and watch GothamChess! Don’t be that grumpy 80 year old! Be that fun guy who know’s how to have a good time while playing chess. Trust me, nobody likes to be bored.

The juicers!!!!

Chess Vs. Checkers

Everyone has asked this question- chess or checkers? Both are classic board games, but which one is the best? Find out here!

For one, checkers has more realistic kings. Like I’ve only played checkers a few times but I know the kings are like beasts… while the kings in chess are like “I am the weakest piece, please protect me, I can’t do crap”. In the endgame they get a bit stronger though.

True…

Checkers is also a lot simpler, with every piece being the same dang thing. I feel like chess represents a true battle more, as we have a king and queen, the soldiers (pawns), then we have the knights and the castles (rooks) and the bishops. When I’m playing checkers, I feel like I’m moving around some mini pancakes or something🤣.

Chess is more intellectually complex than checkers, which I like. Checkers got solved a few years ago. With best play, both sides will draw. Luckily, stockfish has not figured that out (yet☠️💀, like it’s 4000 elo already).

I’m watching you…

But, chess has its downsides. It’s much more demanding than checkers. Chess, especially when you are a serious player like me, can feel tiring. Not just that, but all the ratings, the practice, the controversies, and the games feels like a lot of work and dedication compared to checkers, a feeble little board game that everyone plays at family game night.

So… which is better? Well, both have their upsides and downsides, but I pick chess. How about you? Tell me in the comment section!
