All you probably know of @Witty_Alien's farewell video. It was an emotional, heartfelt video about how health is holding him back, and how thankful he is, and how much he will miss us. Today I will be going over his famous gambit, a bit of insight on it, and a whole bunch more. Let's hop right in!

PART 1: THE ALIEN GAMBIT
For all of you who haven't played witty or watched his streams, here is the alien gambit:
The point of sacking the knight is to weaken the light squares and put the black king in danger. Great for bullet/blitz chess! Before witty came around, it was a very little-known gambit, but when he came, he changed chess itself. He mastered the alien gambit and created one of the most viral openings in HISTORY. Here is how it could continue:
As you can see, the gambit is VERY tricky. Black has to know the right moves to counter and win. If they don't know the theory, they will get smashed. Another example:
Black can't catch a break! While this gambit is unsound, it can catch opponents off guard and beat them without hassle. Here is a list of the imbalances.
White Gets:
- A safer king
- A dangerous attack
- Open lines and juicy outposts for pieces.
Black Gets:
- A weak king
- Weak squares
- More material
So, yeah. The alien gambit is clearly NOT for the faint-hearted. It is one of the most double-edged sword like openings in chess history. But, it is FUN. You never know WHAT the hell is coming, and that is why it is so popular. It is entertaining!
PART 2: Why Was It Such A Big Deal When He Left?
This is a very easy question. They were so sad because he was fun, entertaining, and created one of the most legendary chess openings in HISTORY. Of course people are going to miss him. After everything he has done for the chess world, it is a fatal blow to the community, losing such an active and fun member. You might think I am making this all up, but LOOK. The community really does love him!
How would you feel if one of your loved ones left? You would feel upset! Same story here! Witty has built a connection with chess.com, and to break that is really hard for him, and for us too.
