Ranking Chess Websites
Hello everyone! Today I will be ranking some of the best chess websites, with a short essay on each of them. So, without further ado, here is my top 9!
9. Chesskid
Great for kids learning the game but has a severe lack of activity and strong players. It used to be better, they hosted big monthly championships which everyone loved but then they stopped for some odd reason. The videos are the best part, with content for anyone up to 1600-1700 on chess.com. It deserves to be in the top 9, but I really couldn’t put this any higher.

8. ICC (Internet Chess Club)
This website has always been a very tough website to progress on. There are such good players there. In my opinion ICC rating probably translates to FIDE if you take ICC seriously, in which most people do. It is good and all, but lacks modern features that other websites have, so it kinda gets 1-up-ed.

7. Play Magnus
This one is interesting. On one hand, it’s great! There are all these events and rankings and points and ratings, it has the feel of a good chess website. On the other hand, you can’t play against humans, or do puzzles, or anything! Just play bots and watch videos. It’s not bad, but barely has anything to do.
6. ChessBase
It has high level players, and really instructive masterclasses. The best part is that you can store all your games in folders. It also has all the essentials, like puzzles, live games from GMs, and even rated games vs Fritz on a lower setting. I like it, but, it misses socials, and the general feel of a good chess website. It isn't as smooth and it has a slight lack of players, especially in their version of puzzle battles, where there is like 0 people in the lobby. Like imagine you have 5 minutes left of screen time, and you say I might as well solve some puzzles. You sit down, and you wait. 5 minutes gone, no match. Frick that puzzle section. Besides that, it's alright.

5. OpeningTree
I know what you are thinking. You are like, what the frick is this? Now lemme tell you why it is good. So, this is the perfect place to study for your opponents in high level tournaments. Just enter their username on either lichess or chess.com and BOOM! You have full access to what their favorite opening is, and what line they play. I bet there is a few people: "why can't you use chess.com insights?" Be quiet.. Not everybody is a diamond member.

4. FIDE Online Arena
So, this has all the things a chess website needs. Puzzles, videos, games, tournaments, but it has one thing that NO OTHER website has. And that is TITLES. If you do well on there, YOU CAN GET OFFICAL ONLINE FIDE TITLES! ACM, AFM, AIM, and AGM. (The a standing for arena). How cool is that? You can go around saying: "Oh yeah, I'm titled." That is why this website is this high up the list.

3. Chessable
This is what everyone needs. They have thousands of great courses that come with some of the best chess videos. Also, you can create your own private courses for puzzles or your fave opening lines or something. Or, you can make money off this website. Write ya own course and off you go! Either way, it is a fantastic website.

2. Lichess
This is a great website. It is free and has everything you need. In my opinion, this is the free version of chess.com. It just lacks a few things chess.com has, but besides that, it is great. How can you hate free stuff?
