Ranking (some more) Chess Variants
Oh geez… he’s back at it again…
It was only now I released how many popular variants I missed 💀… so let’s rank the ones that I somehow forgot last blog. Blah blah blah… wait, why am I delaying? Let’s get into the action already!
4-Player Chess
On this blog channel, it is a reoccurring meme that I have beef with 4PC. And, that is true… just for the thousands of random and stupid 4PC variants out there, like they had to get a WHOLE SECTION just for the 4PC variants. But, the OG, the original, is actually very, very good.
This variant adds 2 more players to the already confusing 2 player chess. I love the point system, even if I don’t fully understand it 💀…
The only thing I hate in 4PC is the trolls. Unlike in regular chess, the other players can see your arrows that you draw. While this can help to coordinate, especially in 4PC teams, a lot of people just draw random arrows everywhere and you can’t see the board 😫.
Duck Chess
Chess feels more like a game in this variant. Instead of boring old chess, now you can place a duck down on the board when it is your turn, like an item in a video game. It cannot be taken, and c a be sued to troll a lot of people if you use it wisely. Why is it in S rank? Well, how can you not just love this thing?
Crazyhouse
This variant is as crazy as it gets, hence the title of the variant. When you capture a piece, it turns into a piece of your color, and puts it in your storage. You can place the piece down whenever after that, a lot like duck chess, which is shown above. Just a great variant in general. This can lead to some particularly crazy tactical combinations.
Spell Chess
I love the idea of a collab type variant… but why clash royale? IT COULD HAVE BEEN ANY OTHER GAME lol. I think it is just a bit random. But, I love the spells, I think they work well with chess. The only reason it’s not S tier is, once again, I suck at it 😭… maybe I should get some variant lessons lol.

Setup Chess
It can get boring, starting in the same position every time you play. Well, setup chess will fix that. You can setup your own position, which is a great idea. It’s not S tier because after you set up your squadron of soldiers… it turns back into regular chess, with no rule changes.
Unlike all the others so far, this one only has like 1 person in the lobby… brutal 💀
Chaturanga
Okay, not going to lie, this variant kinda sucks but I have to give it respect, since, at the end of the day, this IS the grandfather of all chess variants- including regular chess! If you want to read more about it, click here!

This variant is one of those forgotten things that appear in so many "Top 5 forgotten chess variant" blogs that now people know what it is 💀
No but seriously, this variant is... alright. I like the creative thinking (okay that was a bit of a overestimation), but the stone pieces just get annoying after a few moves. And for some reason the pawns can move sideways...

There are people that you get partnered with and THEY TRY TO LOSE! I've lost so much rating from that!!
There's also the unlucky scenario where you get the 100 elo noobs.
I hate it when you are so close to checkmate but your dumb partner just loses.
Besides that, it's the same as crazyhouse, and as I said earlier, I love that variant.
THAT IS ONLY REASON IT IS NOT F TIER

Chess With Checkers
In my last variant ranking blog, @David_Krahn commented, saying "Chess with checkers is the best!!!" And, sorry to burst your bubble, but this variant
sucks.
There. I said it.
It's basically just a replica of blindfold chess, which is unnecessary.
And you know what chess players are like with checkers;
That says it all.
XXL Chess
This is the worst variant ever.
The board is way too big (c'mon, 14 x 14???)
And I'm not a huge fan of the new pieces anyway.
It's funny when you cheese someone with the "camel strategy", though (not funny if you're the victim, though! I've fallen for that ONE TOO MANY TIMES!)
