CHAPTER 1: EARLY LIFE:
Paul Morphy was born on June 22nd, 1837. His father was Alonzo Morphy.
His mother was Louise Therese Felicitie Thelcide Le Carpenteir.
He was born in the United States, in New Orleans. According to a lot of sources, he learnt chess by himself by just simply watching other men play, which is quite amazing. When he was 9 years old, he was amazingly considered one of the best players in New Orleans. That year Winfield Scott went to New Orleans. He wanted to play a strong local player. When Paul Morphy went into the room, Winfield was offended by versing such a young opponent, they assured him he is one of the best players in New Orleans, he agreed to play Morphy, sadly, he got checkmated in LESS THAN 12 moves... oof... now thats brutual... lol!
PART 2: SCHOOLING
Beginning in 1850, Morphy played very, very little chess for several years, instead focusing on education. He soon in 1854 received a bachelor's degree from the Spring Hill College in Alabama.
He went on to spend an additional year on campus studying mathematics and philosophy. In May 1855, he was awarded a MASTER'S DEGREE! Congratulations Morphy! We are all proud of you.
