It's nearly time for Hope's 34th annual Watermelon Festival. I was 19 when Hope had her first festival and I remember it well. The mother of a good friend of mine was the director of the Hope Chamber of Commerce at the time and the Watermelon Festival was her invention. It was a smashing hit and has been growing every year.
The first two years of the Festival I planned, promoted and directed a Chess Tournament during the festival. I also planned, promoted and directed a Ping Pong Tournament. Both were highly attended. I really enjoyed it and I've considered doing it again. Perhaps next year.
Anyway, the dates for the Festival are August 12th thru the 14th. There will be lots of activities and things to see. If you live near the area you should plan on coming. I can tell you right now that we've had an excellent year for melons. I've eaten three, so far, and all three were sweet and juicy!
If you want to read a little more about the festival then you can visit the Hope Chamber of Commerce Website which you can get to HERE.
