Hello! And in this article you will learn how to correctly defend against the Fried Liver! This is a little trick that people play, it goes like this:
This trick can be very inconvenient for you, as your opponent is attacking the f7 square, the weakest spot on the whole board. However, you can stop it by playing many different options, my favorite being:
This move means that when they take the knight back, you proceed with the "Center Fork Trick"
and forking the knight and bishop. However, they have more options than that...
They can either play 5...Bxf7+
Or 5...Nxf7
First, let's start with 5...Bxf7+.
You are forced to go 5....Ke7, and then they will most likely play 5...d3.
BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!
Do NOT take what appears to be a free knight!!!!! The pawn push was to open the c1 bishop, which will then skewer your king and queen! Instead your best bet is to retreat to 6...Nf6
They will most likely retreat their bishop, which gives you the chance to make the strong move
7...d5!
They will castle kingside, then you should play, 8...h6!
They will retreat the knight, and you are safe!
Next, the worst move of the bunch, Nxf7...
This is the only move in the position. 5...Qh4!
They have 3 options.
g3, O-O, Qf3/Qe2.
Let's start with g3. A fun trick, play 6...Nxg3!
If they take back with the H-pawn, then you take the rook!
If they take with the F-pawn, same thing, just 7...Qe4+!,
After 8...Qe2, 8...Qxh1.
Then you can just play that out and win!
Next, O-O.
This seems crazy, but do 6...Nxf2! After 7...Rxf2, play 7...Bc5.
This will pin the bishop, then just play on!
Finally, Qf3/Qe2. Same thing for either of these.
6...Nd4!
And their position just falls apart.
7...Qf1 brings 7...Nxc2+ and fork!
So there you are! The correct defense! Thank you so much for reading this article!
