Before you ask yes this is a real thing.  So how do you know if your addicted.

1.) You play to much games of chess not because you enjoy chess because you want Elo.

2.)You consume a lot of chess content because you are hyper fixated on getting better at chess.

Like all things in life there is an extent where a good thing becomes unhealthy. Chess is good for you if your relationship you have with it is not toxic. Here is how I would recommend you approach learning chess.

Tip 1-

You should not play chess for a Elo goal. Don’t care about these numbers on your chess profile. You should always play to improve. If you lose a game think what did I do wrong and if it was just a blunder it happens sometimes. If it wasn’t a blunder learn from your failure. Even from success you can learn what you can do to become even better. That’s how you become really great.

Tip 2-

When you lose two games in a row play unrated games. So you don’t have a tilt session that affects your rating.

Tip 3-

Consuming chess content is good right but it only helps to a point. But, slowly you will just burnout from all the knowledge you consumed. So try learning a fair bit and then playing some games when your in the right mindset.

Tip 4-

Take breaks from chess. Playing chess everyday can get very boring and tiring. So take days off where you don’t even think about chess at all. Doing this is a mental refresh that makes you not overcomplicate the game and just think better so you make good moves.

(Also I might add some people may benefit from not playing chess as honestly it’s a skill that takes time to grow. So if you want to be really good at chess but live a busy life those two things don’t go together.)

Tip 5-

Finally the most important step to recover from chess addiction is get enough sleep. Like seriously sleep is really effecting you. Not just in chess but in life. So get good rest everyone.
