Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
So, after seeing Dunkirk, I wanted to see something with a little bit lighter theme. So we went to see a matinee show for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (French: Valérian et la Cité des mille planètes).
It is a science fiction film based on the French graphic novels "Valarian and Laureline." I don't have a very high opinion of movies based on comics. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc., all bored me to death. It is directed by the Frenchman, Luc Besson, and I did like his films about Joan of Arc, Taken, and the Fifth Element.
I had heard that it was a bomb at the box office, but that did not worry me. It had some stiff competition. This one might be a sleeper. So I thought, what the heck!
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It is an outer space action film, first and foremost. It wasn' preachy like "Avatar.' The CGI was well-done and vry colorful. The depiction of "aliens" were at time, humorous.
There were time I felt like I was inside of a computer game, but that did not detract from the fun.
It is a fun film to watch. Especially if you don't want to be bombarded with anti-this and anti-that propaganda. I recommend it.
