Hey everyone! As I’ve been sharing my journey here on Chess.com, I’ve noticed one question coming up more than any other: "Is the Diamond membership actually worth the money, or should I just stick to the free version?"
It’s a fair question. With so many free tools available online, spending money on a subscription is a big commitment. Today, I’m breaking down my personal experience with the Diamond features to tell you what actually helps you win more games and what is just "extra fluff."
⚡ The "Game Changer" Features
If you are serious about getting better, there are three features in the Diamond tier that really stand out:
Unlimited Game Review: We’ve all seen those "Brilliant" (!!) moves. Diamond gives you an AI "Coach" that explains exactly why a move was great or why it was a blunder. It’s like having a teacher explain the engine's thoughts in plain English.
Insights: This is a huge data tool. It shows you your accuracy by opening and phase of the game. If you realize you’re losing most of your games in the endgame, you know exactly what you need to study.
Unlimited Lessons: The video library is massive. Having GM-level courses on specific openings, tactics, and pawn structures is a great way to level up your understanding of the game.
⚖️ The "Platinum" Alternative
A lot of people don't realize that Platinum is often a great "middle ground." You still get unlimited Game Reviews, which is the most important tool for daily growth. You really only need Diamond if you want the deep data in "Insights" or if you want unlimited access to the entire video lesson library.

So, is it worth it?
Yes, IF you are playing and studying daily. If you use the site to learn for 30 minutes a day, the cost is a small investment in your hobby. However, if you only play a few casual games on the weekends, the Free or Gold tiers might be plenty for you.
For me, the "Insights" and the detailed coach explanations have been the biggest help in spotting the mistakes that were keeping me from reaching my goals.
