Learn How to Use and Understand - Pawns
Pawns, considered to be the weakest piece, can at times be the strongest.
Pawn Promotion: Pawn Promotion is when a pawn reaches the end of the board. Pawns can be "promoted" to any piece other than itself or the king, even the most powerful piece, the queen. But in some cases the knight would be best because you can fork or it's just an overall better choice at the time depending on where the pieces are. You can also create a "Passed Pawn" which is when you sacrifice a pawn in order to let your other pawn pass and promote without anything to stop it.
En Passant: En passant is a special move that can only happen when a pawn has moved three spaces up or forwards and the opposing pawn is one space to the left or right and hasn't moved yet. Then when the pawn moves two squares thinking they passed you pawn and made a clever move you can capture the space it moved over, for that turn and that turn only. En Passant translates to in passing which is referring to the space the pawn "passed over".
Pawn Checkmates: Pawns are useful for assisting checkmates too because they cover two diagonals and they can protect other, stronger attacking pieces such as the rook or queen. Promoting a pawn and then delivering checkmate can also count because it was originally the pawn who made the promotion and the checkmate happen.
Pawn Assistance: Pawns are also very helpful by assisting themselves and other pieces by making a pyramid but that could easily fall apart when your opponent manages to get one of their pieces in it and then the rest of your pieces are trapped. But pawns are very useful in battles over other, stronger pieces because they're only worth one point but can help take out strong pieces like the knights, rooks, or queens. Which can often result in you having an advantage or winning the match itself.
