As day 2 at the Cape Town Masters concluded, only one player has remained unscathed. Candidate Master Khanya Mazibuko. He is currently on 4/4 with an impressive performance rating of 2650, though this tournament is far from over!

In round 4 upsets were rampant among the top boards. The games gave us much to admire as there were so many positions worth noting (not to mention the brilliancies). 3 player are on 3.5/4 including the top seed Jan Karsten.

Fide Master Calvin Klaasen (2165) outplayed his 4th round opponent Tezihano Mnyasta (1853) in the opening but in the middlegame Tezihano took every opportunity to equalize and the game ended in a draw. In this position, Calvin had only one move to maintain his advantage - and found it! Can you?

Over in the advanced section, 2 players lead with full score and are paired against each other in round 4: Rowan Nel (1404) and Adriaan De Waal (1465). 12 year-old Imkhita Joya (1387), who is also participating in the Cape Town Masters, had some valuable advice for girls on how to stay motivated and remain determined to succeed in a male dominated sport such as chess.

There are still 5 games left in the Masters Challenge section and 4 left in the advanced section. I'll be setting up a camera in the hall and commentating on the games today at 09:30 and 16:00 GMT+2! Catch me live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/jesse_feb
