Is Spider-Man Doomed? ( Sony's Spider-Man Universe Might Be Coming To An End: PART 3 )

Spider-Man could be doomed in a lot of different ways: Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 being directed by the SHANG-CHI director, Spider-Man Beyond The Spider-Verse being SCRAPPED, and WAY more revolving around Sony's Spider-Man universe.

Let's start with Beyond The Spider-Verse:

Apparently, a movie critic named Jeff Sneider released a report saying that Sony SCRAPPED most of the movie due to creative/animation differences and it will probably not release until 2027. This news started to spread like a WILDFIRE with people going insane asking why Sony did this, why Sony doesn't trust their creators, but the real reason this might've happened was because the animators had a different way they wanted to do it. ( As everyone probably knows, the Spider-Verse series is KNOWN for its unique animation style that no one can recreate... )

Example:

ANYWAYS, the next day, the film's music composer spawned in and said: "Would you ever believe there could sometimes be stuff on the internet that might not always be particularly accurate?" and THEN, Chris Miller, producer and writer of the Spider-Verse series says: "Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely."

Even though he said this, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a delay. The making of these kinds of movies probably takes YEARS to do and I wouldn't be very surprised if it's delayed a year or so. During Across the Spider-Verse filming, there was a LOT of stress revolving around the animation so I'm not getting my hopes up on a specific date.

Secondly, we've got big news concerning Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4:

  • Destin Daniel Cretton ( Director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ) set to direct the film
  • 5 different plots waiting to be confirmed

First, let me just say that I do NOT think Destin Daniel Cretton was the right fit for this film. Shang-Chi has such a different vibe than the Homecoming series. All 3 of the films were very fun, happy, and upbeat thanks to Jon Watts. And now, all of a sudden, the director completely changes. WHAT?!? I do not think this was a very good move for Sony... and now I'm getting extremely scared for what this man has in store for this beloved superhero franchise.

Now let's talk about the plot. There have been SOOOOOO many different rumors for how this movie's gonna go:

  1. Marvel takes a more "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" approach with Kingpin and Daredevil
  2. Miles Morales enters the MCU and Peter shows him the ropes
  3. Venom
  4. Black Cat and Peter meet ( And fall in love )
  5. Andrew and Tobey return to help Peter on a new mission

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man/Kingpin & Daredevil: The film picks up right after No Way Home with Peter as the "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man". The movie will have the same kind of vibe as the original Tobey Maguire movies did with Kingpin trying to "Rule over the city"...or whatever Kingpin wants to do. The film could also feature Daredevil coming to fight at Spidey's side. ( Daredevil had a cameo in No Way Home so this is highly possible )

Miles Morales enters the MCU: Miles Morales could finally make his big introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this film. ( I'm guessing AFTER the events of Beyond the Spider-Verse ) Miles could come to Peter's universe where he will be taught by Peter and learn the ropes of how to be a kick-butt superhero.

Venom: If I'm gonna be completely honest, I think the whole "Venom" thing is really stupid. They did it in Spider-Man 3 and then had fun making 3 movies on him as the main character, and now they just need to stop. We don't need another Spider-Man V.S. Venom story. It's way too overdone.

Peter meets Black Cat: I have no clue who Black Cat is, but I would love to see a change from MJ and Gwen. Although, I do feel that Sony has built up way too much between Tom Holland and Zendaya. Even though their minds were wiped in No Way Home, I think it will still cause a lot of anger, tears, and confusion.

Andrew and Tobey return... again: I don't think this is the BEST idea, given the fact that this happened LAST movie, but anything is possible in the MCU. Although, in at the Toronto International Film Festival, Garfield said: “I mean, the internet is a big place. I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid." ( Even though him and Tobey weren't called to set until more than halfway through the filming of No Way Home 😉 ) With all that to say, I don't think bringing Tobey and Andrew back again is the greatest thing Sony has has drew up for this movie.

I think the best option for this film is the "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" idea with Kingpin and Daredevil. Why, you might ask? Because of Daredevil: Born Again coming in March, 2025. This show will probably set up ( Most likely in the season finale ) Daredevil's relationship with Spidey, making way for the fourth movie.

BUT, I will say, Venom is definitely the idea that's been stretched out the most: from all the post credit scenes, to Venom: The Last Dance coming in November. It pains me to say it, but I think that's where Sony is leaning with this film, even though I think all we really need is an original idea. ( I'm guessing Black Cat will still make an appearance though )

I really hope Sony ( And Destin Daniel Cretton ) knows what their doing and don't ruin this film series... and my life.

Jetplane Movies has been such an amazing journey for me. To look back over the years and see my style of writing change has been so fun and it's been such a blessing having all of y'all by my side. Whether this is your first time reading, or you've been a fan since the beginning. I thank you; from the bottom of my heart. This has been a very exciting part of my writing career and I'm so happy with how it's turned out. It's definitely had its ups and downs, (*Cough Cough* The @Jehtt Tribute) but I'm so excited to now be able to share these blogs with the Chess.com community... even though they are ALL about movies. Enjoy!
