Jim West Talks Chess: Bill Wall Plays the PCG

Bill Wall has e-mailed several Philidor Counter Gambits that he has played on the Internet, from both sides of the board.  The following is not the best of the bunch, but instructive nonetheless.  Obviously White needed to play 9.Nh3 Bxh3 10.gxh3 with a slight plus for Black.  Instead of the game continuation, I have tried 7...Qxg5 8.Bxb4 dxc4 9.h4 Qf5 10.Bxc4 Nc6 11.Bc3 Nge7 12.Qe2 Nxe5 13.Bxe5 Qxe5 14.Nc3 Be6 15.Bxe6 Qxe6 16.Qxe4 Qxe4+ 17.Nxe4 O-O-O 18.Rd1 Nf5 =/+, Brandon Burrows (USCF 2215) - Jim West (USCF 2225), New Jersey Open 9/6/1998, ending in a draw.
