How winning and losing affects how you play chess
Full thumbnail here:

For those of you who are good at chess and have been playing for a long time I would say this blog is very obvious, but people who are starting out I hope I can actually help so lets just get into it
Disclaimer:
This is 100% my own personal experience, don't take any of this factually and expect some bugs and errors
1 A bad win
Now some of you may be confused by this you might be thinking "A bad win? Surly wins can only affect you positively?" Now am not saying that a "Bad win" means it is terrible but this is just my take. So what is a "bad win" well I would say beating your opponent badly, what I mean by this is playing sloppy and not really caring much for the chess game making blunders and not being overly motivated to win. Because of you playing sloppily and still winning you don't have a large expectation in the next game and you will be sloppy and lose horribly and you won't want to play because of how badly you lost. So always put your all into every chess game no matter what. To be honest I don't know how many of you will actually relate to this so let me know if you can relate.
2 Beating a lower rated player and winning but it being close
So this may affect people in different ways it could make you feel really terrible or just motivate you even more. Intrigued? Let me explain
So barely winning to a weaker opponent could be soul crushing the train of logic being they are they are weaker than me and I barely won. This may make you think you are not good enough for your league and since status among our peers really drives certain people (Me being one of them) this could be pretty diminishing so how could this be a good thing
for me it is thinking about the game and not the opponent. Now I want to clarify I am talking about if the lower rated player played well and you. You could probably make a hole separate blog talking about this segment if it was if both you and your opponent played poorly but am getting side tracked. So knowing you won a good game that was close is a good feeling. The fact that my opponent is weaker does not really come into an account for me so this is good for me
3 winning against a player your level
This will have a alright impact I would say. Coming back to the status thing this will show that you can beat someone your level and when it comes to a fair fight you can just about win at the end of the day winning against someone your level it is a good thing it motivates you to play more and it makes you more grounded and straight when it comes to chess so this is a good thing. But really this is kind of vague really playing against your opponent the same skill as you and winning is as I said vague. Really it depends on the game its self so if you want me to make a blog on that feel free to say
4 winning against a player who is stronger than you and the game being played well by both parties
This is the best one. I could do it so if you beat them sloppily but to be honest that does not sound the most interesting to me and it just seems unlikely. Winning against I higher rated opponent who clearly put there all into the game is the best it leads to huge rating gains, motivation, the feeling of accomplishment and status! So this is the best in my opinion(And probably yours) also it makes you take chess more seriously and it shows you are on a up word trajectory. Really there is not a lot to say other than this is brilliant if it happens
5 losing to a higher rated opponent and it being close
This will affect people in different ways one of them being regret. Thinking you are so close to winning but just failed because of some mistakes can be pretty demotivating or it could be encouraging. Why? It is because it shows you can put up a good fight against someone who is above you witch means you could probably beat someone your level in ratings (This is broad)
6 Losing to someone who is your level
This kind of depends more how frequently this is happening. Anyway this kind of puts you in a place where it should be expected however for more determined players this is not good (Keep in mind you can be determined and still not resilient) or the idea that you are normal may be slightly demotivating however it is important to know that you played someone roughly your same skill level and against your opponent who is the same skill level you could probably learn a thing or 2. Yes this could be done with the higher rated players but since that they higher rated player would most likely know more theory and complicated lines so it might be harder to learn where as someone your level would be more essay to learn from. (Granted that does not mean that it is effective) over all this won't affect you to badly depending on what type of player you are and how much your losing to your peers
7 Losing to a worse opponent
This essentially is the opposite of number 4. But one thing I will say if you lose to a lower rated player it means the lower rated player should be higher rated or you played badly. Anyway losing to a lower rated player makes you less motivated to a extreme level. First of all loads of rating loses just because of one game secondly even though it doesn't really it feels like it kills status or damages it and losing to a lower rated player may give thoughts that you have just gotten worse. It is important not to think this, but really there is not much to say here other than it is just really bad.
Well that was probably obvious and you did not learn anything but either way if this help you then great! Maybe if you did not learn anything you at least got some level of entertainment or it maybe enforces certain believes. But this is all my personal view! I don't want to possibly make things worse for other players who are just starting out.
