Pawn Endgames
Pawn Endgames are one of the most important endgames at a higher level. Whenever we talk about pawn endgames it is mostly 3 vs 3 pawns. To win such endgames you need your king. If you bring it closer to your your pawns you can defend it from your opponent's king ad you can attack the rivalry pawns. One of the main Ideas in the top levels are breakthroughs. Breakthroughs are when you sacrifice 1 or 2 pawns to get a passed pawn which will be unstoppable from queening. One more tactic which is extremely useful in a pawn endgame is zugzwang. A zugzwang is a situation where a move is made and the opponent is forced to make a move that loses the game. -
In this game black is put into a zugzwang. That means he is forced to play g3 which completely loses and leads to a checkmate. So whenever you play an endgame make sure you don't go into a zugzwang!
Whenever you and your opponent have passed pawns, the pawn which has lesser squares usually win but in some cases they both promote on diagonals which leads in an exchange and it is totally winning for the player with the queen.
Queening first is not always winning as sometimes to king gets skewered to the queen that promotes first-
