Practicing Makagonov's Gruenfeld
The game you are about to see features a seldom-seen, but sound line in the Gruenfeld. Vladimir Makagonov popularized an early push to b4 in the 1940's. Bagirov and Korchnoi used this line occasionally throughout the 50's 60's and 70's. Since Korchnoi's game with Peter Svidler a few years ago, this system is considered unambitious and drawish. I sure haven't found any theoretical improvements, but I'm not afraid to play it in class events.
This game occurred in the 2008 New Jersey Open
