The most common e4 opening is the Sicilian. The sicilian goes like this: e4, c5, Nf3, d6. This is most popular line. After d6, usually follows d4 or bb5+. The open sicilian which is the d4 line is pretty tactical. Especially the dragon, in the dragon variation, you have to attack quickly or else your opponent will breakthrough and usually end in checkmate or an advantage. The second most common reply to e4 is e5. There are many openings branched out of e4 e5 but I won't go over every one there is. The most popular reply to e4 e5 is Nf3 and then Nc6. Then you could go bb5 the Ruy Lopez which is the best reply to e4 e5 Nf3 or the Italian which is bc4 instead of bb5. Another popular line is the scotch which is e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 d4. The Ruy Lopez, the Italian, and the scotch are all very aggressive lines. After Nf3 for white, black doesn't have to reply with nc6, he might reply with Nf6, the Petrov's defense. The Petrov's defense is kinda tactical due to the fact the e file will be opened but usually it's pretty calm. Black could also reply Nf3 with d6 the Philidor defense, the Philidor defense is pretty calm, no complications.
