Darwin Day Feb 12th

Feb 10, 2009, 4:29 PM |

Hello my fellow mammals!

Today is the birthday of two of my hero's! Darwin and Lincoln. One of them helped free America from the troglodytic thinking that one person could "own" another, and the other one helped to free the human mind from the chains of stupidity.

In America Monday Feb 16th is celebrated as Presidents Day, so Lincoln has his day. But how many also know that Feb 12th is Darwin Day? In fact this time it is his 200th! That means he was born in 1809 for those of you math challenged sapiens. :)

Darwin Day is an international celebration of science and humanity held on or around February 12. Specifically, it celebrates the discoveries and life of Charles Darwin -- the man who first described biological evolution via natural selection with scientific rigor. More generally, Darwin Day expresses gratitude for the enormous benefits that scientific knowledge, acquired through human curiosity and ingenuity, has contributed to the advancement of humanity.
