Beating Angry Duo

With the chess.com collaboration with Duolingo, chess.com created the Duolingo bots featuring iconic characters like Oscar, Junior, Zari, Lily and the mascot Duo himself 

Most of the bots were normal for the most part, other than the trash talk and fun facts but Duo was the enigma with an elo of '?' so it was up to us to figure it out. He didn't look like anything out of the ordinary, until we made him mad... and we found the dark side of Duo and his wrath... 

As the time of the Duolingo collaboration comes to an end, I want to showcase the games in which I beat Angry Duo and what I learnt along the way

I put the collection of games here for reference to understand later parts of the blog 

1) When Duo first showed up, I just played him like any other bot and beat him without thinking twice about it

2) After watching the Gothamchess video showing Duo beating Gotham, I wanted to know how Duo was able to do it and after researching with a few other club members, we figured out that language openings were what unleashed the rage of Duo. Now to figure out how to beat it legitimately...

3) The first time that I beat him legitimately as shown in the archive was a very close game but I eventually edged it out against Duo at the end and beat him which showed that the bot was able to make mistakes and could be beaten by a human unlike Mittens

4) I decided that the English opening was the best way to beat Duo as the opening was pretty solid and I didn't have to wait for Duo to play the Italian or the Spanish and the rest of the games that I beat him in were using the English opening

5) The first time Duo changed, I was able to beat him. I will let the chess speak for itself

6) The second time Duo changed, I was able to beat him with 3 brilliant moves in the first game! The other game was another standard game

I learnt that Angry Duo plays quite well and you need to play solidly and wait for it to blunder in order to win the game. If you want to beat him, I recommend the English opening for reasons I stated above. Just play solidly and you should do fine
