My favorite chess board.
For my birthday my friend gave me an Amazon gift card, and I instantly went online searching for a chess board. My top choice is the Chess Armory Foldable and Magnetic 9.5” chess set. It’s great.
Now. Why do I like it so much?
1. It is foldable and magnetic
This is a big spoiler and I’m sure you didn’t know that already. The pieces fit nicely in the inside of the board and when you play you can turn your board upside down and keep playing (sort of) it’s not really comfortable but it works. Plus all cool chess boards need to be magnetic…
2. Portability
You can put it in your backpack and you wouldn’t even notice. I brought it to school and the pieces did’t rattle, my backpack wasn’t heavier, and it was easy to take out and put back in. The size is perfect for over - the - board gameplay and is in the Goldy Locks state, not too big, and not too small, just right. Also, the board snaps together when you close it, so you don’t have to worry about the pieces falling out in your bag.
3. Quality
Though the pieces and board are plastic, they still feel nice to hold and are the perfect weight. There is felt at the bottom of each piece and a magnet base. The magnets are strong enough to turn the board upside down slowly, but shaking and jerking will cause them to fall off. The coloring is spot on and the board is smooth, making it easy to slide your bishops and rooks around like maniacs.
Final Thoughts
The chess set is absolutely amazing and if you are worried about the price it’s actually one of the cheapest I found that had all the features I wanted. It was $16 on Amazon and the company is super nice about broken pieces. They even give you a free (chess) ebook with every purchase and you get invited to their facebook club thing (I don’t know what it’s called)
Over the board gameplay isn’t going away anytime soon and sets like these keep it almost as easy and convenient as online chess. Okay bye have a nice day.
