The Day I Accidentally Speedran a Grandmaster
I sat down expecting a long, painful positional grind, the kind where a grandmaster slowly squeezes the life out of you like a python with a rating. Instead, the game turned into the fastest win of my life. I played a quiet opening, nothing flashy, just normal development, and then out of nowhere he played a move so suspicious I thought it was a trap. I triple‑checked it, quadruple‑checked it, checked it with the paranoia of someone defusing a bomb, and realized it was just… bad. I hit him with a tactic so simple it felt illegal, won a piece, and suddenly the GM was staring at the board like it had personally betrayed him. He tried to complicate things, but every attempt only made his position worse, and within twenty moves he resigned with the expression of a man who just watched his stock portfolio crash. I walked away trying to look calm, but inside I was screaming because I had just speedran a grandmaster like it was a glitch in a video game.
