Today we have an epic and instructional struggle between Capablanca and Marshall in New York (1918). Taking place in the first round of the tournament Marshall unveils his new opening (The Marshall Attack) which according to legend he had been keeping secret for years waiting to unleash it against a worth adversary.

Despite this loss the Marshall Attack has gone on to be a very successful opening and has been refined and made even more deadly over the years. So even though Marshall had a disappointing tournament (3rd place), he managed to create one of the most popular defenses to the Ruy Lopez.
