Week #5!

For week number 5 I've decided to show some games with Euwe playing the King's Indian Defense. The KID wasn't Euwe's favorite but when he used it he had a very good win rate. Despite this win rate, I am going to show a game he won and a game he lost; we don't want to forget Euwe was human after all.

The first game takes place against a local English player, H. E. Price. It seems as though the two players only met twice but I'm thinking that Price may have been thankful for that after seeing this game.

Could you have saved white's position?

By the way in this tournament Euwe came clear first (only losing one game to Colle), and Price came clear last (losing all of his games).

The second game shows how things can go wrong when playing the KID; Euwe ends up without any real counter-play and is dispatched by an opponent who would prove to be tough for him: Lazslo Szabo.

Black to play and keep the balance:

Why should Nc3 be avoided?

That's all for this week! Next time we will start the World Championships with Alekhine.

I'll see you all next time!

I'm looking to post a few times a week. Message me if you'd like a lesson!
